After the long summer and/or drought conditions, our lawns can be seriously stressed and needs to breathe fresh air. If you want your lawn to refresh and become healthy again, consider the aeration and slit seeding.

What is Aeration?

Over time, due to heavy foot traffic or age, your soil will become compacted and compressed that will make it difficult for the lawn to flourish. This makes it difficult for the nutrients, water, and air to reach the roots of your grass. Because of this, the grass weakens, and you’ll start to see the weeds growing all over your lawn. It also makes them vulnerable to different diseases.

With aeration, you can help your lawn to thrive again. Aeration allows the air and water to access again the roots of your grass by piercing and breaking up the soil.

Using this technique, it allows the roots to grow deeply. In turn, it will produce a stronger and healthier lawn. Keep in mind that you need to use a machine designed for this task.

Some people are uncertain to use aerating because the soil plugs that were removed by the machine may look unsightly making the lawn unaesthetic or ugly.

However, this is temporary only and should not discourage you from using it. In fact, it dissolves and breaks down quickly making it beneficial for your turf.

If your lawn ground is too dense and compacted or there’s a quite number of thin grass, then late spring is the best for aerating since the weeds have already established but before they started to bare flowers.

What is Slit Seeding?

Slit seeding is a process of planting seeds of grass that mix the dethatching with seeding. To do this, you need a machine called “slice seeder” that has a row of blades which puncture the soil then slit it.

Using this approach will open up the roots and the dead grass of your lawn. Then the row of blades will create an opening for the seeds. It will make the seeds secure and contact with the soil making it a superior way of spreading the seeds to your lawn.

Conclusion

Both ways are beneficial. However, choosing the method for reseeding your turf depends on your lawn. It is best to speak to professional people so you can get the necessary information that you need.
